Indications are Gallacher plans to overhaul hockey operations, bringing new people in to run the front office and the coaching staff, and perhaps even new players from the college or junior A ranks.

Not really sure what to think of this right now. It will be interesting to see everything that the new ownership does, but not really sure to what extent things need to be overhauled. The Hawks are a young team so I'd expect them to struggle.

I'm sure we will hear more when the team gets back from this road trip.

If memory serves me we haven't had the greatest of luck bringing in College kids. Atleast the higher profile kids.

I think it'll be a good thing. Basically, it can't really be worse.

From what I heard, the former LA Kings assistant coach will be coming in with his own staff. I was a little surprised to hear that, but I did see some sort of out-of-place LA Kings staff (warm ups, team logo pins) at the WHL tournament pre-season in Everett. At that time, I heard about this sale and it all turned out to be true (i.e. the source has been correct so far), so I'm assuming all the FO is out.

As for the Hawks being young... that's true, but it's time to grow up and start winning. I'm getting tired of the losses... but I'll still be at every game I can.

Speculation from the Trib
GM/Coach - Mike Johnston
Assistant - Travis Green
Operations - Ken Stickney

The article also states that the changes could take longer so we might not see anything right away.

I hope that if there are changes, they are done soon to give the new staff and players a chance to gel and grow for next season forward.

Change is a coming...
Quote:
More buzz from Portland: With the sale of the Winter Hawks expected to be completed next week, a source tells me that GM Ken Hodge cleaned out his office earlier this week and that Mike Johnston, the former Vancouver Canucks/Los Angeles Kings assistant coach, is in Portland preparing to take over as the Winter Hawks’ GM/head coach. As well, former NHLer Travis Green, who will be an assistant coach under Johnston, also has arrived in Portland. Bill Gallacher, the Calgary-based businessman who is purchasing the franchise, is due in Portland today or Thursday.
